failed upgrade install

hi there, i am trying to run a purchased dvd of Vista build 5384, 32 bit on a new sony vgx-xl1a with win media ctr edition,512 mb ram 3.0 clock and 160 gb sata.have tried clean as well as conventional install/upgrades. can complete but cant access, can only boot in safe mode where i am able to change several things. using advisor i only had to install start drivers for sata drive which i did. can someone help? thanks.

Jay - you should never install "Beta" version as upgrades - an easy way to lose XP, or Media Center, installation. XP as no method of restoration after an upgrade attempt - or than reinstallation. To "safe mode" - Ninety nine and nine-tenths of the time a successful safe mode boot but unsuccessful normal boot indicates a driver problem.
